The 2021 World Conference on VR Industry ran from October 19 to 20 in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China. Held under the theme of convergent development and innovative applications, the event featured a Korean session hall for the first time, along with a Korea-China Metaverse Industry Forum where the two countries discussed ways to work together.

At the accompanying 2021 World VR Industry Expo, Sembricon's China-Korea Innovation Center presented Korean companies working in VR healthcare, education, gaming and semiconductor design. Nine VR and The Crossing Lab appeared there as leading firms in the metaverse sector, drawing attention on site.

Shen Hongyuan, co-founder of Sembricon (Beijing) Technology, noted that the term metaverse has grown familiar to the public as VR, AR and MR technologies advance. He added that the idea is not something any single country can realize on its own, and that it requires cooperation spanning both industry and academia.

The article notes that China named VR and AR development a key direction in its 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), while Korea set a goal of becoming one of the world's top five extended reality (XR) powers, creating a basis for cooperation. Zhou Mingquan, chairman of China's virtual reality technology and industry innovation platform, said he hopes the two countries will draw on their respective strengths to build a global VR industry ecosystem together, and Professor Kim Jae-ha of Seoul Institute of the Arts pointed to a partnership between China, with its hardware manufacturing lead, and Korea, with its focus on software and content.
