The Crossing Lab announced Meta Art Space, an art market platform combining the metaverse with NFTs, due in early 2022. As social, economic and cultural activity moves into virtual space, the platform is built so that viewing an exhibition, talking with the artist, and buying a work all happen inside a single virtual gallery.

Here is how it works. An artist sets up a studio on the platform to display and sell work, while a user moves an avatar around the space, drops into a studio they like, and views or buys what is on show. Works that change hands are minted as NFTs so their originality and ownership are protected, and consulting from world-class art appraisers and international lawyers is available.

Chief executive Shin Ji-ho said the platform will act as a channel connecting talented artists with the global art collectors community. Rather than simply lining works up, he said, the team focused on building a dimensional space suited to the standing of the work itself. He added that the metaverse should not belong to the MZ generation alone, and that the company wants to make content the silver generation can connect with too.

The Crossing Lab is a metaverse platform developer founded in 2021 by Shin Ji-ho, a professor in the Department of Film and Video at Konkuk University. Video specialists, veteran developers and artists work together on platforms built around graphics quality and realism. After Meta Art Space, the company plans a metaverse shopping mall for buying and selling goods, and Fantastic Island, a metaverse social platform for meditation and healing journeys in nature.
